The Danish Parliament
Celebrating 100-years of the constitution of Denmark

In 1915, an update to the constitution of Denmark gave all citizens the right to vote – now including the poor and women. In 2015, to celebrate a century of modern democracy, NusNus was asked to design & produce a large scale celebration outside the Christiansborg Palace, which houses the Danish Parliament, Folketinget.

Instead of one main stage, we suggested to curate and produce 8 areas with music, art installations, sports activities, birthday cake, debates and a pool party all round the Slotsholmen island. The tagline for the event was “Alle Kan Være Med” (Anyone Can Join) and the pool party in the canals was called Demokratibad (Democracy Bath). Festivities included a female football tournament, a debate on freedom of the press, folk dance co-hosted by Michael Bertelsen, speeches by the prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, a large scale music stage next to the historic stock exchange Børsen and other happenings – attracting more than 15.000 guests.
